49th WALKER CUP - THE OLD COURSE
Walker up History
First established in 1922, the Walker cup has been played in alternate years. One contest In America, two years later in Britain & Ireland. America leads the win ratio against Britain & Ireland by a significant margin. 38-9-1 (Walker cup.org). America have won 4/5 competitions.
Par and yardage
The old course at St Andrews is a par 72 which plays 6670 yards. St Andrews is the World’s oldest golf course established in 1400 which makes it over 600 years old (Yardages subject to change).
The Royal & Ancient (R&A) recently announced their 19 player Walker Cup Practice squad for the 2023 Walker cup, to be held at St Andrews. Meanwhile the United States Golfers Association (USGA) recently invited sixteen (16) player’s to a USA Practice session.
The final team is set to announced in August 2023, once the players have spent the season battling for a spot in the team.
This will be the ninth (9th) time that the Walker cup has been held at the St. Andrews Old course.
